Our History

Jonishan Pty Ltd was established in 1995 by John Shannon from humble beginnings. John brings 32 years experience in the water infrastructure industry gained during his time as Owner Operator of Jonishan while subcontracting to Tier 1, 2 & 3 companies.

Jonishan has reinforced its reputation as the civil excavation experts, delivering excellent results for clients for over 30 years. Jonishan has evolved by recruiting highly skilled and recognised Project Managers, experienced pipe layers and exceptional plan operators with infrastructure industry experience.

Together with our outstanding management team and staff, Jonishan is now the “go to” company that tier one companies and developers have come to rely on for more complex civil projects. With the ability to adhere to stringent timelines and budgets, Jonishan continues to deliver.

Insurance

Jonishan not only have a fully implemented QSE management system, we also have comprehensive insurance cover for all risk aspects including:-

  • Contract Works up to Project value
  • Vehicle, Plant & Machinery 3rd Party Liability up to $50,000,000
  • Public & Product Liability up to $20,000,000
  • Professional Indemnity up to $10,000,000
  • Hire-in plant up to $500,000

Plant & Equipment

Jonishan’s rapid expansion has seen frequent additions to it’s fleet of plant and equipment. We pride ourselves on the high standards maintained on all of our company plant, equipment and vehicles. Our in-house qualified mechanics and welders ensure all plant is safe, fit for purpose and in excellent working order.

The machines are fitted with all necessary devices to meet safety & environmental requirements, and all operators are trained and ticketed to safely operate the machines.

The fully insured fleet of plant and vehicles for hire includes:

Jonishan are a fully accredited Sydney Water contractor & Hunter Water (A2) . Our capabilities include:

  • RW (Recycled Water DN 65 – 375)
  • S1, S2 (Sewerage Reticulation DN 150 – 750)
  • PE (PE Pipe Systems)
  • LP (Pressure Sewer Systems)
  • Driller (Water Services Connection)

Jonishan have certificates of pre-qualification for OHS/WHS capabilities with “cm3” and “Browz”.

Sustainability

Jonishan is proud to have partnered with John Holland, Sydney Water, and Boral on an industry-leading sustainability initiative that supports a circular economy in infrastructure delivery.

With Australia’s annual sand consumption exceeding six times the rate of natural replenishment, the need for alternative materials is critical. This collaborative project explored the use of blended recycled glass sand – sourced from curb-side recycling bins, as a partial replacement for natural sand in pipeline bedding. Jonishan was engaged to trial this innovative material on site, replacing up to 40% of natural sand with recycled glass. The result demonstrated not only the technical viability and performance quality of the recycled sand but also its potential to reduce reliance on natural resources in civil construction.

This trial marked a meaningful step forward in sustainable construction practices, and we were honoured to be named a Finalist in the R&D Excellence category at the 2025 NSW Water Awards in recognition of this work.
